Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it is used, and the limited circumstances in which others may receive it. By using Fayette County Criminal History, you accept these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log or copy of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email message when needed to answer it. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, standard server records may capture these technical details:

  • Page-view dates, times, and duration
  • Device type and operating system
  • IP address assigned to the device
  • Browser name and version
  • Pages viewed during the visit
  • A referring site, when one exists

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure site use, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics vendors combine that traffic into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although some functions may then work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing technical faults
  • Maintaining site speed and availability
  • Routing search requests to the selected partner
  • Measuring which pages are useful
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Fayette County Criminal History does not maintain, sell, or compile a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, and Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a third-party record or consumer report, and the site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. A partner's own privacy policy governs the information entered there, including its retention and sharing rules. Review those terms before sending a query because we do not control the partner's practices.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, Iowa agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across sites and select targeted ads.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving ads
  • Government bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices protect collected data. No internet system is completely secure, so a breach can never be ruled out or guaranteed against.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor's data is identified, a deletion request can be made.

Your Data Rights

The Iowa Open Records Law in chapter 22 governs public access to Iowa government records, while Iowa Code chapter 692 limits criminal-history dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian or criminal-history repository. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data
  • Ask for correction of inaccurate information
  • Seek a copy of personal information on file
  • Opt out of eligible forms of processing
